For this design I wanted a simple texture that would highlight the rich tones of Harrisville Designs’ Highland yarn. The diagonal lines draw the eye, and the silhouette is flattering on a range of body shapes. Wear over a long-sleeved shirt, or pop over a dress for extra warmth.

Finished size (worn as shown on model)
39 1/2 inches (80 cm) wide at the elbows; 31 1/2 (100 cm) inches from neck opening to bottom of point.
The poncho can also be turned 90 degrees and worn as a cropped garment with longer sleeves.
Tips for modifying the size are included at the end of the pattern.

Construction
The poncho is knit flat in two pieces and sewn together.

Yarn
1,100 yards Harrisville Designs Highland (6 skeins include enough yarn for swatching).

If substituting yarns, choose a slightly tonal or heathery yarn that is woolen spun, so that the finished garment is light but warm.

Tools
• US #8 (5 mm) needles for working flat (straight or circular)
• Seven (or more) locking stitch markers
• Blocking wires or pins (optional)

Techniques
Twisted German cast-on, sewn bind-off, overcast stitch for sewing the pieces. Links to video tutorials for these techniques are provided in the pattern.
