Fioricini Socks
I designed these socks to feel delicate and a little playful. The flower motif is inspired by Hungarian folk art, a nod to my roots. A picot cuff adds a light, frilly touch, and the purl rows give the fabric a soft texture.
I knit my sample in size S (for more negative ease) using yarn cones. For the MC I used a fingering weight alpaca and merino blend from DML Studio. For the CC, I held together eight strands of thread weight cashmere merino blend. You can easily swap the CC with a DK yarn or a fingering weight held with one or two strands of mohair or fluffy alpaca yarn.
This pattern is perfect if you’re an adventurous beginner ready to try something new, but it’s also a relaxing project for experienced knitters who enjoy small, thoughtful details.
With this design I want to encourage you to use your yarn stash or those cool thrift finds hiding in your cupboard. I love second hand yarn, and the yarns I used for my samples are all deadstock or treasures from the thrift store.
MC: 100 g of fingering weight yarn is enough for all sizes
dark pink sample: 55 g for a pair of size S socks.
CC: 20 g is enough for all sizes
Note: The sample is knit in size S and shown on feet that usually wear size M. Due to the tighter gauge and the natural stretch of the fabric, size S provides a close but comfortable fit. If you prefer a less snug sock or have a high instep, consider going up a size or adjusting needle size.
