Fish Fossils Toe-up Sock has lacework on instep and around leg, a faux heel flap worked in either honeycomb pattern done with or without cable needle or knit-slip
ribbing. Additional options include tapered or rounded toe, generic or calculated foot length, and Russian or picot bind off. References are provided for most techniques.

DIFFICULTY - Advanced Intermediate. Pattern is
written from the perspective of a right-handed, English style
knitter using circular needles and assumes sock knitting
and chart reading experience.

MATERIALS
Yarn: Approximately 400 yds (366 m) light fingering weight
yarn; sample knit with Schoppel Wolle Zauberball; 75%
wool, 25% nylon; 459 yd (420 m)/100 g; color 1699.

Needles: Two 24 inch (60 cm) circular needles. For sock sizes
small and large, use US 1 (2.25 mm); for size medium, use
US 0 (2.00 mm).

Other: Darning needle for weaving in ends, 3 closed stitch
markers, cable needle.

GAUGE: In stockinette, flat with size US 0 (2 mm) needles:
9.5 stitches/inch (3.7/cm), 13 rows/inch (5.1/cm);

with needle size US 1 (2.25 mm): 9.0 sts/inch (3.5/cm), 12.5 rows/inch (4.9/cm).

A difference of 1/2 to 1 stitch from gauge can result in
about a size smaller or larger sock.
