A DK-weight version of the Fishtown Cowl is now included!
This version was created for a stranded colorwork class at Yarnphoria in Philadelphia and is worked in Kelbourne Woolens Scout (DK weight, 100% wool). The DK cowl measures 20” (51 cm) in circumference × 7” (18 cm) in height and is knit at a gauge of 21 sts and 26 rows = 4” (10 cm) in stockinette stitch, blocked.
It’s worked using US 5 (3.75 mm) needles for the ribbing and US 6 (4.0 mm) needles for the main body. This version offers a slightly thicker, cozier fabric and is ideal for knitters who want a faster project or prefer the feel of DK weight for learning stranded colorwork.

If you enjoy this pattern, I’d love it if you gave it a heart! ❤️ It helps others discover the design and supports my work as an independent designer.

Fishtown Cowl is a stranded colorwork cowl featuring bold fish skeleton motifs that make a striking centerpiece. Knit in fingering-weight yarn, it’s playful, graphic, and a fun way to explore high-contrast color pairings.

The design takes its name from Philadelphia’s creative Fishtown neighborhood, but the real inspiration came from the electric blue shade of KAOS Luxury Soft Merino, which instantly reminded me of fish and the clean, graphic lines found in Scandinavian design traditions.

• Two versions included:
– Short Cowl: approx. 7” height × 20” circumference
– Large Cowl: approx. 13” height × 30” circumference

• Skills: Knitting in the round, stranded colorwork, reading a chart.

• Pattern includes: Full written instructions and colorwork chart.

• Yarn used: KAOS YARN Luxury Soft Merino (Fingering, organic merino). Samples shown in:
– MC Enigmatic with CC Natural (short version)
– MC Electric with CC Natural (large version)
