The Flathead Lake Scarf is inspired by childhood Summers spent outside along Flathead Lake. Skipping colorful rocks, riding & caring for my grandma’s horses, and sing-a-longs to George Strait. Flathead Lake is located in Northwestern Montana and is the remnant of an ancient lake that existed during the last Ice Age, Lake Missoula. At its largest, it was estimated to be over 3,000 square miles. Today it’s managed by the Seli’š Ksanka Qlispe’ Dam and is a major contributor to local irrigation and farming.

Recommended needle sizes and gauges for each kind of yarn. This is all adjustable but will change the size of your scarf
Fingering - US 2/2.75 mm needle - 32x40 in stockinette in 4 inches
DK - US 4/3.5 mm needle - 22x28 in stockinette in 4 inches
Worsted - US 6/4 mm needle - 18x22 in stockinette in 4 inches
Bulky - US 9/5.50 mm needle - 15x20 in stockinette in 4 inches

Sizing:
Your size will vary depending on how much yarn you want to use or your intended purpose. Not all yarn weights may be applicable for all sizes. For example, a bulky weight knit to recommended gauge will create a minimum of a 4.25”/11 cm wide scarf. Here are some recommended measurements:

Scarf: 6.5”x70” / 16.5 cm x 178 cm
Children’s headband: 3”x27” / 7.5 cm x 68.5 cm
Adult headband: 3”x30” / 7.5 cm x 76 cm
Single wrap neckerchief (adult): 3.5”x27” / 9 cm x 68.5 cm
Double wrap neckerchief (adult) 3.5”x54” / 9 cm x 137 cm
Bookmark: 2”x8” / 5 cm x 20 cm

Scarf Sample:
Juicy DK from Farmer’s Daughter Fibers in Amos Moses with a US 4/3.5mm needle. 6.5”x80” used 445 yards/407 meters of DK weight yarn. Has 13 stockinette stitches in between i cord border and cable sections.
Adult Headband Sample:
Juicy DK from Farmer’s Daughter Fibers in Kinnikinnick with a US 4/3.5mm needle. 2.75”x28” used 96 yards/88 meters of DK weight yarn. Has 4 stockinette stitches in between i cord border and cable sections.
