Fleisher's Munich Strip
I knit one repeat of this strip and thought it looked like a mountain. After 2 repeats, it looked like a couple of leaves. Lesson learned: work at least 2 repeats of a lace pattern before deciding what it looks like!
This 1912 Fleisher’s pattern was originally for a shawl. I added a couple of side and selvage stitches to make an afghan strip. The pattern has 23 stitches and 8 rows. Half the rows are purl across with 2 selvage stitches. I call those rows “vacation rows”!
The cast-on edge will tend to scallop unless a wide border is worked before starting the Munich Strip pattern. A scalloped edge or a straight edge is up to you. Also, feel free to alter the types of decreases to fit your esthetic.
The strip is 4 inches wide blocked to gauge.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, k3tog and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
34 yards of KnitPicks’ CotLin DK weight yarn will make 10 inches of this 23-stitch strip at gauge.
