Inspiration: I was always intrigued pooling designs, so I decided to begin my journey on the first pooling design. Playing around with bobble style stitches, and any other styles of stitches that you could bunch up the colors together. My problem was I couldn’t find a design that I particularly liked, I personally am not a fan of bobbles, I love how they look but I can’t seen to get them all the same and this irritates me. I am a stifler for balance and symmetry, so this drives me crazy. When I finally found the stitch pattern I liked and was happy with the results (after all my revisions); I noticed that I couldn’t get the stitches to be even every row so I started all over again. The pooling stitch you see now is really a labor of love that took a lot of frustration and time to perfect. I hope you like the end result and enjoy this pattern. This will be the first in my series of pooling patterns that I have planned. I hope you get as addicted with the design as I did.

Sizes: 43” x 64” x 78” / 109 cm x 162cm x 198 cm
(size will also vary on the yarn weight of your choice and the amount of tension of your blocking)

Yarn: FingeringYarn- 800 m (875 yards) approx

Sample Yarn:
Apricate Sock Pooling Yarn
(85% Superwash Merino Wool & 15% Nylon,
Fingering Weight - 400m/100g)

Feel free to experiment and substitute with the yarn of your choosing of equal or lesser weight. Pooling yarns are required to give the contrasting color of the blooms through the the shawl. Pooling/contrasting color sections in the yarn are recommended to be approx 11-12” (28-30 cm) for the stitch to be able to cover all the colored sections in the yarn.

Suggested Needles: US 4 - 3.75 mm circular needles (optional 4.0mm needle for BO)

Gauge: 24 sts x 34 rows (unblocked) / 21 sts x 36 rows (blocked)
Gauge is not a huge factor but I would practice the special stitch that is used for the pooling section, you may want to go a needle size bigger or smaller based on the coverage of the contracting color.

Materials: pooling yarn of your choosing, knitting needles, darning needle, blocking pins & mat (optional blocking wires & towel for drying before blocking)

Skills: knit, purl, wrapping yarn 3 times around needle, increase (kfb), decrease (k2tog, p2tog), binding off in pattern, wet blocking.

Construction: Florecer Wrap is worked from a narrow point and increased ever right side row to give you a triangular wrap. Body of the wrap is done is stockinette with the special blooming pooling stitch worked on the right and wrong side of the wrap. The wrap ends in 2x2 ribbing to giving some added texture and a polished look.
