Flos Ambulare (flower walk) Shawl

The shawl is intended as a metaphorical and physical walk through the garden, paying homage to the plant dyed yarn produced by Lana Plantae. Each of the unique slipped + mosaic stitch patterns is knitted together to create a flower inspired shawl. But, make no mistake, this shawl is all about the yarn… and the experience of knitting with plant dyed yarn {a real privilege}.

Construction + Pattern Overview
This oversized, triangular shawl is worked in one piece from the tip (cast on) to the wide triangular bottom (at bind off). Throughout the knitting, Icord is worked at the beginning and end of each row to create smooth edging and then bound off (in Icord) at the end. The knitting is organized into sections--marked by different slipped st + mosaic st sections-- each section flows directly into the next. Lastly, increases only occur on one side of the shawl, creating an asymmetrical triangular shawl shape.

• Worked on circular needles, back + forth
• The pattern is for worsted weight yarn
• Includes measurements for each individual section in case you alter the pattern
• 3 main stitches are used: knit + slips + purls
• Both written and charted instructions are included.
• Icord as you knit, Icord bind off

Individual Sections
The entire shawl is comprised of 16 individual shawl sections. The shawl is designed to flow from one section directly to another—it is very much a sampler style design. Each section includes written + charted instructions for the pattern.

Each section creates a unique stitch pattern. Within each section are instructions that include the base stitch pattern. The first row that you knit in a new section sets up the new stitch pattern. Increased stitches begin to be worked into the stitch pattern accordingly. Also included are measurements {for checking the gauge} and ending stitch counts. Lastly, any special directions for how to handle the inc stitches are included for those relevant sections--some of the pattern sections will be easier than others that will require a bit more focus.

Pattern Documents
Important. Two separate pattern versions are available:

  1. The full version of the pattern which includes both line by line written and fully charted instructions, 34 pages.
  2. The short version of the pattern which includes the written and charted pattern repeat, designed for knitters that do not need the row by row version, . 16 pages.
