The socks are worked cuff down. They start with ribbing. After the ribbing, the leg is worked in
stockinette stitch with stranded colorwork.
The heel is worked using a short-row construction (boomerang) combined with a gusset to
ensure a comfortable and well-fitting shape. First, the gusset is formed in the round with
increases; then the short rows create the heel turn; and finally, the gusset stitches are decreased
in the round to transition smoothly into the foot.
The foot and toe are both worked in the round. The toe is shaped with decreases and finished
neatly using the Kitchener Stitch.
The colorwork pattern is made up of three flowers per repeat, although somewhere along the
way, the flowers became a little less botanical and a little more abstract. Each one has slightly
different petals, so no two flowers look quite the same - which is probably what happens when
you stop trying to draw an actual flower and just start knitting one.
The floral pattern covers the socks from the leg to the top of the toe, leaving the ribbing, heel
and toe plain. The colorwork is worked with two colors, creating a romantic but not overly sweet
pair of socks.
For a little extra fun, the pattern chart shows the flowers centers for embroidering them with a
third color. It is also a perfect excuse to use up those tiny amounts of leftover yarn that are far
too small to throw away but somehow impossible to find a purpose for.
