The Folklore Ruffle Top is a romantic, feminine blouse inspired by the embroidered peasant tops popular through the ages, but specifically in the 1920s- and 1930s. It’s knit bottom up, with a ruffled mosaicnknit waist, fairytale-like puff sleeves, and a romantic embroidered neckline.

To achieve the gossamer effect of chiffon, I used mohair silk for the main parts, with a solid fingering weight to add support to the ribbing.

Needles: 4 mm & 3 mm

Yarn Mohair: Fabel Knitwear Mohair Silk (50 g = 400 m)

Yarn Ribbing: Fabel Knitwear Athena

Size: (XS) S (M) L (XL) 2XL (3XL) 4XL

Bust: Aprox (84) 94 (104) 112 (122) 131 (136) 146 cm

Quantity Mohair Silk: (50) 65 (75) 75 (100) 100 (100) 100 g

Ribbing: Either 20 grams of 1 colour, or 10 grams of 2 colours (20 g in total)

Note that 50 g should just be enough for size xs, but you if you knit tighter or end up doing the ruffle just a tiny bit longer you will need more.

Gauge: 20 st(s) = 10 cm

ADJUSTED YARDAGE:
After seing a few knitters on the smaller sizes running out of yarn, I have adjusted the yardage. It was not a problem for my testers, but seing as it’s happened twice I figure it’s better to be safe than run out! This is the adjusted quantity of mohair silk:

Mohair silk: (50g) 65g (75g) 75g (100g) 100g (100g)

Note that size XS is JUST enough, but if you end up knitting tighter, or even doing the ruffle just a bit longer you will not have enough. If you would like to be safe I would recommend getting an extra skein.

ORIGINAL YARDAGE USED BY TESTERS:
Quantity mohair silk: (50g) 50g (75g) 75g (100g) 100g (100g)

Quantity Ribbing: Either 20 grams of 1 colour, or 10 grams of 2 colours (20g in total)

Gauge: 20st(s) = 10cm

NOTE ON AVAILABLE SIZES - if you want to knit this, or any of my patterns, in a larger size than I currently have published, please get in touch! The only reason it is not available in larger sizes is I couldn’t get test knitters for those sizes, and I don’t want anyone to pay for a pattern and knit a size that’s not been tested. So if you would like to (test)knit this - or any of my patterns! - in a larger size than is currently available, drop me a message and I’ll send you the pattern for free!
