Vincent van Gogh is my favorite artist and his sunflowers are my favorites of all of his paintings. This shawl was inspired by the Dr. Who Episode, “Vincent and the Doctor.” What could be better than my favorite artist and my favorite doctor in one TV show? Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to travel through time and meet all of the inspiring and talented people who are no longer with us?

This is not a true pi shawl because the shaping is worked into the design of the central floral motif, rather than happening between sections. I found the original sunflower design in the book Knitted Counterpanes by Mary Walker Phillips. It is called “A Bit of Italy” and was worked as a square motif.

I dedicate this to Vincent and all starving artists everywhere and everywhen.
