Do you remember the movie “The Mask” with Jim Carrey? The fragment when he first takes the mask in his hands and it so fascinates him. When I take this hat in my hands and look at it, it is as if for a second I find myself in a house in the remote Altai mountains. I sit on the porch , drink hot tea, and watch how endless sea of the tops of the fir sinks to morning fog. When suddenly a wild fox comes out of the forest to the edge of the yard. She stops ten paces away and looks at me, and I look at her. And then she just runs away. The best places are not where you can touch the wild, but where nature can touch you.

This hat is soft and does not prick at all , and despite its easy, it is very warm, we do not freeze in it even in cold Siberia, while in the photo you can see that in this hat not hot in autumn and spring too :wink: The pattern also contains a description of how to link the ears to this hat.

The pattern contains videos of difficult moments, as well as video on how to make a lush and neat pompom.

This hat uses a foxes ornament based on the Claire Neicho pattern. Published with the author’s consent.

Total yarn amount needed:

Projects in many color combinations can be viewed in Instagram using hashtags #foxes_hat_markevich #foxes_lopy and #foxes_lopy_kids.

You will needs:
– 50 – 60 g 1.8 – 2.1 oz in main color for the brim and crown;
– 20 g 0.7 oz ea in a contrasting color for the upper and lower colorwork pattern, nose and ears of the foxes, and the same amount in white.
– 40–50 g 1.4 – 1.8 oz in any one of the colors for the pompom.

Tools and notions:
– circular needle 4.0 mm US6 with 40 cm 16 in cord; DPN set 4.0 mm US6 for the earflaps;
– stitch marker;
– tapestry needle;
– pompom maker (I used one by Addi);
– sufficiently sharp scissors.

Gauge.

A gauge swatch, worked on 4.0 mm US6 needles, should have about 20 sts/25 rounds.
A square of 10 x 10 cm 4 x 4 in consists of 17 sts x 22 rows/rounds in stockinette stitch.

In order for the hat to turn out having just the right level of elasticity, tension has to be controlled while knitting so that the knitted fabric won’t be unduly stretched, while the resulting hat will turn out comfortable and with moderate ease for a secure fit.

If using the recommended needle does not yield matching gauge, change the needle size to larger/smaller needles until your gauge matches the one listed in the pattern.
