While I like the look of large textured cowls, I find they are often too loose to keep out the most bitter winter winds. This warmer is designed to fit snuggly against your neck. I wanted to use up a precious skein of hand dyed worsted yarn and get a super warm and functional something out of it.

The bright color of my yarn reminded me of the Fuschia bloom Inger has preserved behind glass in The Growth of the Soil. It is a fine and luxurious thing to see such a bright and beautiful flower in the depths of winter, when all around there is only white and grey. It brings the family joy to look at it when Inger is away from them.

This cowl is quick to work up and simple enough for a beginner crocheter to make as well!
