Gahpir – Earflap Hat

Gahpir is inspired by a type of close-fitting hat with earflaps and ties seen in old photographs of Sámi clothing traditions. The colorwork pattern is taken from Samevotter fra Tanadalen – Deanuleagi sámefáhcat by Kirsti-Synnøve Suongir.

Gahpir is worked from the bottom up. The earflaps are worked flat first, before stitches are cast on between them and the hat is joined to work in the round. A crocheted edging and braided ties are added before the hat is felted.
