This adorable bag was created from my imagination after walking through my flower garden. I have a beautiful white trellis surrounded by pretty flowers in shades of pink, white and green. I thought it would be fun to carry a handbag that reminded me of my garden trellis so this design was born.

I chose Stained Glass Comfy Cotton Blend yarn because the color reminded me of the colors of the garden flowers. The Whipped Cream color is perfect for the trellis keeping all the flowers inside. The cotton yarn was unbelievably soft and silky feeling while gliding through my fingers as I worked the crochet stitches! This yarn is a pleasure to crochet with!

The top of the trellis is adorned with tiny flowers and buds that peek over the top, just like in my garden. They make me smile.

For a handle I decided to use Tunisian Crochet because it naturally curves while creating the rows and it wouldn’t require anything special to make it work for straps.

The bottom of the bag is an oval using the Stained Glass color. The sides are textured Trellis Stitch and the bag feels nice and thick from the textured stitches.

This sweet bag measures 8.5” tall by 11” wide and the bottom is 2” in width. The straps measure 14”. You can easily make them longer if you wish and can also make any part of the bag wider or taller very easily. I happen to prefer this size bag (because then I don’t carry as much!)

I would suggest that this pattern is more suitable for intermediate to advanced crocheters, not beginners. It’s not difficult, but a beginner would most likely think it is such. I have included instructions for 3 of the stitches used and have also included a link to a YouTube video where I explain the Trellis stitch in more detail. The pattern has explanatory photos where needed also.
