Red Heart Super Saver Stripes in color “Favorite Stripe”
1.5 skeins (a little over one skein)
Size 4mm hook
Gauge: 4” = 16 rows sc and 19 sc stitches = 4”
Finished bag is 10” wide, 8 “ tall and the bottom is 3” wide.

This is a cute bag that takes just a little more than 1 skein of yarn. I always use two skeins so I can control colors to my liking. But most of the bag is crocheted just letting the colors flow right from the skein.

It has an oval bottom that measures 3” wide, so it’s a skinny bag, which I love to carry because I don’t take much with me. My iPhone, glasses, wallet, and some tissues fit nicely inside with lots of room to spare. It’s open at the top for easy access.

The handle/strap is VERY sturdy and won’t stretch out at all. That’s a plus for crocheted bags!

The textured diamonds design along the outside of the bag give it a designer touch and added thickness so the bag doesn’t stretch out with contents inside and the sides don’t fall over when you set it down. It doesn’t need a lining!

This is the cutest bag and gets lots of compliments and is one of my best sellers in the local boutiques.

This Pattern may be best for Intermediate to Advanced Crocheters. It’s not terribly difficult but it does take knowledge of basic crochet techniques that Beginners may not be accustomed to yet.

Stitches Used:

  • slip knot
  • chain
  • sc
  • blsc
  • inc and dec
  • dc
  • fptrc (explained in pattern)
  • slip stitch to close round
  • hdc
  • single knot fringe ( explained in pattern)

I have made a video explaining the main textured diamond stitch and an additional video explaining the strap construction and they’re combined in one video HERE on my YouTube Channel. And be sure to SMASH that LIKE button while you’re there!

There is just a small amount of hand sewing involved, mainly attaching one end of the strap to the bag body and sewing in any loose yarns if you change colors manually rather than letting the colors flow from the skein.
