The Celtic festival of Samhain, more commonly known as Hallowe’en, on 31st October marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the long, dark winter. This is a magical night of spirits and fairies, and never more so than when it coincides with the Gealach Lán or Full Moon.

The colourwork of this graceful, wide-sleeved, yoked design represents the glorious glowing corona of the Gealach Lán shining through the darkness of the Samhain night.

Instructions are given for sizes XS - XXL (32”-52”) and please note that this design can be knitted in either Ístex Einband, for an elegant, lighter-weight fabric, or Jamieson and Smith Shetland 2ply, for a slightly thicker fabric. The yarn chart on the pattern gives quantities for both options.

If working with Einband you will require 5-7 balls of the main colour and one each of the 6 different contrast colours.
If working with Shetland you will require 9-14 balls of the main colour and one each of the 6 contrast colours.
