The Gem Hat is a classic stockinette hat with a little decorative textured detail which makes the brim stand out. It has a relaxed fit with only 3-3.5 cm (1-1.5”) of negative ease around the head and it is worked bottom-up.
The brim is folded and attached/fixed to the hat on the inside, so that it won’t move making it easy and comfortable to wear.

Techniques:
knitting in the round, long-tail cast-on, decreasing.

Sizes:
XXS, XS (S, M, L, XL) - corresponding to
Child, Teen (Adult S, Adult M, Adult L, Adult XL) and a head circumference measured over the ears of:
cm: 48.5, 51, (53, 56, 58.5, 60) cm
inch: 19, 20 (21, 22, 23, 23.5)”.

Finished measurements of the hat:
- brim circumference: 45.5, 47.5 (49.5, 53, 55, 57) cm //
18, 18.5 (19.5, 21, 21.5, 22.5)”.
- brim length: approx. 6.5, 6.5 (7.5, 7.5, 7.5, 7.5) cm //
2.5, 2.5 (3, 3, 3, 3)” (or your desired length).
- crown length: approx. 8 cm // 3.2”.

Ease:
approx. 3-3.5 cm (1-1.5”) of negative ease at the brim circumference.

Material:
Circular knitting needles:
-4 mm (US 6) or the required needles to obtain gauge - for main project in stockinette;
-3.5 mm (US 4) or half size smaller than main needles - for textured pattern;
-optional: 4.5 mm (US 7) - for the folded brim.

Cable:
40 or 50 cm (16 or 20”).

Dpns:
4 mm (US 6), or same as main needles.

Yarn:
Size & Weight: Size 3 - DK.
Yarn used and yarn’s yardage: Alpaca Fino by Pascuali (100% alpaca wool - 50g = 100m/109y) in colorway undyed.
Suggested yarn: Alpaca Fino by Pascuali, or any yarn in the same weight.

grams: 70, 72 (80, 87, 90, 93) g.
meters: 140, 143 (160, 173, 179, 185) m.

Gauge:
worked flat in stockinette with 4 mm (US 6) or main needles, and blocked:
10x10cm (4x4”) = 21 sts x 28 rows
