This hat is fun to make and easy to wear. It knits up very differently, depending on the yarn you choose. It starts with a snugged hatband knit on smaller needles, and finishes with a 10-point spiral decrease.

The original pattern is designed for Woolfolk Far, which is amazingly soft and luxurious. Instructions for the basic hat and two-color variation are included. For a single color hat, you will need two skeins. For a contrast hatband, you will need a small amount of a contrasting color.

I have also knit this pattern using Malabrigo Rios yarn (pictured in 689 Valentina in the patter) with the same needle sizes and stitch counts. Rios yielded a springier texture. It has much more stretch when wet and stays blocked to larger dimensions, yielding more volume or slouch. Malabrigo provides a generous amount per skein; only one was needed to complete the pattern.

Materials needed:
• For Basic Hat Pattern: two skeins of Woolfolk Far yarn.
• For contrast color hatband, add one skein (three total). You will not use all of the yarn for one hat.
• 3 pairs of circular needles in 16” length (or 24+” length if using the magic loop method): US size 5, size 6, and size 8 (or size to fit gauge)
• Double-pointed Needles (DPN) in Size 8
• 10 stitch markers
