This pattern is available for free.

A beginner-friendly knitting pattern that you can use to make blankets, scarves, pillow covers, or whatever you want! Skills needed: CO, knit, purl, k2tog, yo, bind off.

In the included video tutorial, I’ll show you how to create the gentle wave pattern using basic increases and decreases. We’ll start with the pattern and make a swatch, then talk about how to use your swatch to get the size project you want to make and how to find your pattern when you get lost in the waves.

Materials needed:

  • Yarn - you can use any yarn for this pattern, see notes on yarn choice and amount in the blog post
  • US size 8 (5mm) needles or the size needed to meet the gauge
  • Stitch markers (optional but highly recommended)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Snips

In the photos shown, I used Caron Simply Soft in sunshine, plum wine, lavender blue, country blue, and pistachio (less than 1 skein each). All were pulled from my stash.
