Gigglemug is a kite shaped shawl that starts from the narrow, pointy, corner on the neck edge, and gradually gets wider towards the end. The slightly asymmetric shape is created with a centre “spine” formed by double decreases. The lace pattern is fully written out, but there´s also a chart for a single pattern repeat for both sides of the centre “spine”.

YARN

  • 4 skeins of Skein Yarn El Merino* (100% superwash merino; approx. 400m 437yds per 100g); 2 skeins in MC and 2 skeins in CC.

(El Merino is discontinued and is replaced with Skein Yarn Allure (100% Extrafine Superwash Merino; approx. 400m 437yds per 100g))

-OR approx. 640m 699yds of any fingering weight yarn in 2 different colours.
(Yardage above is for the sample shawl with the pattern yarn, needle size and gauge).

SIZE

  • Height approx. 64 cm/ 25.6” at the widest point, length at the neck edge approx. 207 cm/83”

NEEDLES

  • 3,5mm US4 circular needles (100cm/40” or longer), or size needed to get gauge.

GAUGE

  • approx. 21,5 sts & 38 rows = 10cm/4” in garter stitch, after blocking, and using the given needle size
  • gauge is not crucial since this is a shawl, but different gauge will affect the size of the shawl and the amount of yarn needed.

NOTIONS

  • tapestry needle for weaving in the ends
  • stitch marker (atleast 1, more if you would like to mark pattern repeats)
