This is a knitting pattern for a quick, impressive “mug rug” coaster worked in a cheerful, gingham pattern. Makes a great last minute gift!

Knit Picks’ Dishie yarn is held double-stranded in a simple 6-row pattern repeat that is fun to work and looks impressive. Tied-on fringe adds a fun finishing touch.

Color selection of the yarns is key: in addition to white or off-white, select two colors of the same tone but different values.

Dishie colorway combinations I have used to create this simulated gingham are:

  • Mulberry, Lilac Mist, and Swan
  • Blue, Silver, and Swan
  • Black, Silver, and Swan
  • Jalapeno, Honeydew, and Swan

An interesting neutral option would be:

  • Coffee, Linen, and Swan

NOTE: Although this piece is worked flat (back and forth) a double-pointed or circular needle (US #6) is required.
