The Girl Power Cowl is covered in feminist motifs, and is a great conversation piece!

Made from small quantities of DK yarn, this is an excellent scrap-buster and a great introduction to stranded colour work for beginners. If using pure wool, you’ll need about 75g in total.

The sample has been made from a variety of 100% wool DK yarns left over from other projects, but if you’d like to buy yarn especially I’d suggest a good quality Shetland wool like Langsoond, J&S or Jamieson’s of Shetland. Shetland wool grips to itself, meaning it won’t slide around on your needles and making it ideal for colour work.

The pattern is designed in five colours, but you could use as few as two. Just make sure they’ve enough contrast for the motifs to be clear.

Knit in the round on a circular needle, or on a set of 40cm DPNs if you prefer. Suggested needle sizes are 3.25mm for the rib, and 4mm for the main body.
