Pattern description
This pattern was previously known as “Heart Christmas tree ornament”, if you have purchased it before Feb 2020, visit your library to download the updated version, new customers will receive both versions.

This sweet heart ornament is a great gift for a friend or partner to show you care! Use it as a bag charm or hang several from a driftwood branch for a quirky home decoration. They also make a cheerful addition to your Christmas tree or a thoughtful homemade Valentine.

This pattern is intermediate in level and suitable for those who can confidently do UK double and treble crochet (US single and double crochet). It is worked in the round with a magic ring start. Both US and UK versions of the pattern are included, as well as an older version of the pattern for an aran/worsted-weight Christmas decoration (as pictured).

This pattern uses UK double, half treble, treble, double treble and triple treble crochet stitches. Written instructions for half/double/triple trebles are included.

A photo tutorial is included in the “Give my Heart” file for the pattern steps, the invisible join and making a tassel. A colouring sheet is included to help you plan you colour schemes. Written and charted instructions are provided in both versions of the pattern.

You can use any yarn, but use a hook that is smaller than normally recommended for that yarn, so that the fabric is nice and firm. Cotton-rich yarns work best.

For the tasseled heart in sport/4ply yarn you will need:

• Sport/4ply weight mercerised cotton yarn. Main heart colour: ~8 g (~20m), contrast colour (border, hanging chain and tassel chain):~3 g (~8m), Tassel:~2 g (5m)
• 2.5 mm hook
• Yarn needle
• Toy stuffing ~2g
• Wooden beads, 1 x 10 mm diameter and 2 x 8 mm diameter

For the Christmas heart in worsted/aran yarn you will need:

• Worsted/aran weight cotton-rich yarn (~25m of red and ~2m of white)
• 3mm (D/3) hook
• Yarn needle
• A short ribbon or cord to hang up your decoration
• Toy stuffing ~5g

This is not a toy. Do not hang near to flames, lights or other heat sources.
