Glasnevin Sweater and Cardigan
Introduction
The Glasnevin design is a seamless yoke pattern knitted top down and in the round as either a sweater or a cardigan. This design has a series of textured stripes worked with slip stitches and alternating knit and purl stitches, creating a repeated motif of emerging shoots. This motif inspired the name ‘Glasnevin’, named after the Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin.
The pattern has been tested by a team of test-knitters and undergone rigorous edit by a separate Technical Editor.
Construction
Stitches are provisionally cast on for the neck circumference and then the yoke is shaped with increase rounds. For the cardigan version only, additional stitches are cast on to create the central steek down the front of the garment. At the base of the yoke, stitches are divided to separate the body and sleeves. The sleeve stitches are placed on hold whilst the main body is worked in the round. Once the body is finished, each sleeve is worked in the round. In the cardigan version, the steek stitches are secured with a crochet reinforcement and the work is cut down the centre of the steek. For both the sweater and the cardigan, stitches are then picked up from the provisional cast on and the collar is worked.
