Loinnir Scarf
Introduction: ‘“Loinnir” is an Irish word meaning ‘light,
brightness, or radiance’, and is also used to describe the sparkling of sunlight on the sea. The pattern is highly adaptable and you are free to use any single-skein of yarn you wish (a 3 ply fingering weight up to an 8 ply DK-weight works best). The samples are knitted up in Cardiff Cashmere and Knitting for Olive Merino yarn, 50g of each.
Size: One Size (approx. 86 cm across the width at the widest point / 44 cm from top to bottom) using Cardiff Cashmere.
Estimated Yardage: 50g, 224m for Cardiff Cashmere.
Tools Required: Straight needles 3.5mm, sewing needle for weaving in ends.
Techniques Required:
• Long-tail cast on method
• Standard Knit and Purl stitches
• ‘Making a knot’, as per the dandelion stitch
• Stitch increases i.e. ‘YO’, ‘BYO’.
• Stitch decreases i.e. ‘P2TOG’, ‘K2TOG’
• Knit-wise bind-off
Experience: Suitable for a beginner level of knitting experience, looking to try some new techniques.
