Two more puppets with mathematical fronts! They demonstrate Triangular Numbers and Square Numbers.

Triangular Numbers are the result of adding consecutive numbers:

1st Triangular Number = 1

2nd Triangular Number = 1 + 2 = 3

3rd Triangular Number = 1 + 2 + 3 = 6

4th Triangular Number = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10

One way to derive Square Numbers is by adding odd numbers:

1st Square Number = 1

2nd Square Number = 1 + 3 = 4

3rd Square Number = 1 + 3 + 5 = 9

4th Square Number = 1 + 3 + 5 + 7 = 16

The puppets can be used simply as toys or to help teach counting and colour recognition. When they are not being ‘worn’ they still look good if they are displayed by standing them on any spike.

As with all our puppets, these are extremely easy to make.

The puppets in the photos were made from Double Knitting (DK) yarns; other similar yarns can be used.

Note: The circumference of the head should be approximately 21 cm (8.5”) when stuffed.
