Go is the fifth day of the 2017 Advent calendar: twenty-four patterns, one a day, to learn to count in Chinese.

It is written 五: a stroke at the top, a stroke at the bottom, and between them, one stroke going down and another that turns. It reads “wǔ” in Chinese and “go” in Japanese.

Like its character, Go turns: cords of crossed stitches leave the ribbing and spiral up around the head, then curl in to the crown. A hat knitted in the round in one skein of (Vi)Laines “Tordue Aran”.
