Squares chosen and stitched with thought, love and care,
Plenty of quilt for two laps to share.
With two hot drinks, conversation and laughter,
Tears for the tales and smiles for after.

Each patch sparks a memory,
Each memory a feeling,
Each feeling brings warmth and a nurturing healing.
For our bodies and souls,
Our health and our spirit,
A feeling of home wherever wrapped in it.

The Goose Eggs Quilt is a modular pattern inspired by cosy quilts and the beloved Biscuit, Buttons and Pickles series of books by E. J. Taylor from my childhood. You will work one shape at a time, knitting each triangle onto another to complete your block. My favourite part is that you never have too many stitches on the needle and are using very simple stitches, but the outcome is a beautifully intricate looking blanket square. With an easy to memorise pattern I hope you find these blocks as meditative and soothing as I do.

Finished Measurements

The size of the finished quilt is adjustable based on how many blocks you make.
When knit to gauge and blocked, each block measures approximately 22” x 22”. Final size will vary though depending on how aggressively you block your work.

Gauge

28 sts x 48 rows per 4 inches/10 centimetres worked flat in garter sitch and blocked.

Yarn

If you follow the same colour order that I did in my sample the yarn requirements will be as follows:

For each block comprising of 4 quadrants you will need approximately 40g of fingering weight in your CC1 40g of fingering weight yarn in your CC2 and 80g of fingering weight yarn in your MC.

I used a specially designed monthly yarn pack from Lay Family Yarn called the Goose Eggs Quilt Blanket Club

For your whole quilt you will need to multiply these numbers by your desired number of squares. My quilt will be 3 blocks wide and 4 blocks long, so I will need 480g of CC1, 480g of CC2 and 960g of MC.

This quilt also lends itself to being a great stash buster. Each quilt block is comprised of 8 x Triangle A which use less than 10g of fingering weight each and 16 x Triangle B which use less than 5g of fingering weight each. Again, multiply these numbers by your chosen number of blocks to estimate how much yarn you will need or just add to the blocks as you create fingering weight leftovers from your other projects.

Needles

3mm needles, or size needed to obtain gauge.

Notions

A locking stitch marker can be useful when you begin your first triangle to mark the right side.
