Scarves can be worn in a variety of ways and in all weathers. This long tapered neck scarf is knitted flat using sport weight yarn on 3.5mm needles. This is a good project for knitters with some experience. This scarf was created whilst on a holiday to Guernsey.

Yarn: Approx. 150g/345m sport weight/5ply yarn of your choice. Suggested yarns: baby alpaca, cashmere, merino, silk. Main image: beige scarf knitted in baby alpaca sport weight yarn

Needles: 1 pair 3.5mm needles.

Size: Approximate length using recommended yarn and needles 180cm.

Tension: As a number of yarns are suitable for this project a tension square isn’t necessary. The scarf length will vary slightly depending on the yarn used.

Notes for knitters:
• The scarf is constructed by knitting end to end, using two moss stitch borders and cable panel patterns at the edges with increase and decrease sts to create the shape. Each pattern repeat is 12 rows.
• It is recommended to place two stitch markers 9 sts from the end of rows.
• More or less repeat patterns can be added if a larger or smaller scarf is preferred. Approximate measurement: 180cm.
• The right side (RS) is odd numbered rows; the wrong side (WS) is even numbered rows.
