Description: The Star Stitch was one of the first stitches I learned how to knit after learning how to knit and purl. Recently I’ve rediscovered it and have been loving the result of knitting it with a contrasting colour, especially for socks! There are so many options for knitting these socks: DK or fingering, toe up or cuff down, monotone, contrast colours for clams and/or accents; the possibilities are endless!

Method: knitting

Skill Level: skilled beginner/intermediate

Yarn:

Fingering weight socks with cuffs, heels, toes, and clams in CC: 100 g MC and 50 g CC

DK weight socks pictured (CC1 for cuffs and toes and CC2 for clams): 100 g MC, 40 g CC1, and 20 g CC2

Needles:

US2 (2.75 mm) DPNS for fingering weight socks

US 4 (3.5 mm) DPNs for DK weight socks

Other sized needles could also possibly be used to get gauge, just be sure to swatch if you’re unsure.

Approx. Gauge:

Fingering weight: 30 sts and 45 rows for 10 cm x 10 cm, after blocking

DK weight: 26 sts and 36 rows for 10 cm x 10 cm (4 in x 4 in) after blocking

Sizes:

Sizes 1 (2, 3, 4) for fingering weight socks are based on the measurement around the ball of the foot and for this pattern are 19 cm (21.5 cm, 24 cm, 26.5 cm) or 7.5 (8.5, 9.5, 10.5) in
