Presenting a knitting pattern for the Haven Top by Knittybae. Downloadable PDF pattern that creates a relaxed, open knit look at the upper body paired with stretchy, fitted high-waisted ribbing at the lower body. The top is worked in one piece, with only seaming at the shoulders required!

It’s a beginner friendly, made to measure pattern that’s easy to customize to your preferred fit. You can adjust the length and width of both the body and sleeves based on your own measurements if the presented size doesn’t fit. The pattern also includes two sleeve finishing options: leave them unfinished for an airy, slightly flared look, or add ribbing for a more polished, balloon-style finish.

This pattern is provided in English. This document spans 19 pages and includes instructive images to further help you pursuit your goal result.

Recommended Skill Level: Advanced Beginner and above.

Pattern uses following crochet stitches: st st (stockinette stitch), 1×1 rib st (1×1 ribbing stitch).

CONSTRUCTION OF THE TOP
The Haven Top is worked bottom up in one piece, primarily in the round. You’ll begin by casting on stitches for the bottom ribbing, worked while holding two strands of yarn together. This helps create a comfortable and flexible fit around the hips or waist, depending on the fit you’re aiming for.

Once the ribbing is complete and the lower body length is reached, you’ll transition to the upper body by switching to larger knitting needles and working with one strand of yarn only. This change creates a lighter, more open knit texture that defines the upper portion of the top and sleeves.

The work is then divided into Front and Back body panels to shape the arm openings. After completing the panels, the shoulders are seamed together to form the basic structure of the garment. Next, stitches are picked up around the arm openings, and the sleeves are worked in the round directly from the body.

To finish the Haven Top, you can choose between two sleeve options: either add ribbing for a more polished look, or leave the sleeves without ribbing for a relaxed, intentionally unfinished feel.

MATERIALS:

  • 5 and 7 mm KNITTING NEEDLES (circular)
  • YARN – Super fine (no. 1)
  • SCISSORS
  • TAPE MEASURE
  • STITCH MARKERS
  • STITCH WIRE (or scrap yarn)
  • SHORT AND LONG NEEDLE CABLES (optional)
  • TAPESTRY NEEDLE (optional for weaving in ends)

YARN RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • For this pattern I recommend using cotton yarn (any Super Fine cotton will do fine) or wool yarn (e.g. DROPS Nord or Alpaca etc.).
  • To get right result, I highly recommend using required yarn weight (Super Fine, no. 1) with 5 mm (or 4 mm) knitting needles for ribbing parts and 7 mm knitting needles for body and sleeves.

e.g. For purple sample top in size M I’ve used two strands of yarn for the ribbing and single strand of yarn for upper body: Super fine (no. 1). I’ve used DROPS’s Flora in shade Ametyst 09 (in total approx. 900 m). For rose pink sample top in size M I’ve used two strands of yarn for the ribbing and single strand of yarn for upper body: Super fine (no. 1). I’ve used hobbii’s Rainbow Cotton 8/4 in shade Powder Rose 063 (in total approx. 900 m).
