This baby blanket pattern, designed with beginners in mind, features a charming combination of hearts and stars, created using only knit and purl stitches. Crafted with a soft and lightweight cotton-acrylic blend in a warm salmon hue, the blanket is worked with yarn held double, ensuring both durability and an airy, delicate texture.

Sizes

The pattern includes six size options to suit different needs, from a small lovey to a cozy throw:

  1. Lovey: 14” x 12” (35 cm x 30 cm) – a perfect comfort blanket for little hands
  2. Security: 14” x 16” (35 cm x 40 cm) – slightly larger, great for snuggling
  3. Bassinet: 26” x 27” (65 cm x 70 cm) – fits neatly in a bassinet or cradle
  4. Stroller: 26” x 31.5” (65 cm x 80 cm) – ideal for on-the-go warmth

Pattern variations

In addition to multiple size variations, the pattern also includes instructions for design modifications and alternative layout options, giving you the flexibility to customize your blanket to suit your style.

Techniques used

The pattern is beginner-friendly and requires only the following techniques:

  • Knit and purl stitches to create texture and the seed stitch borders
  • Slip 1 with yarn in front (sl 1 wyif) to ensure a smooth and elegant vertical edge
  • Binding off in pattern (maintaining the seed stitch)

Both charts and written instructions are provided, allowing you to choose your preferred method or use them together as a reference. Additionally, a diagram of the finished blanket, including measurements for each size, is provided for reference.

Gauge

The pattern is based on repeated sections of heart and star motifs. Gauge is measured over the pattern repeat. One full pattern repeat (56 sts x 38 rows) measures 12” (31 cm) x 5” (13 cm).

Adjust needle size if necessary to achieve the correct gauge.

Materials

  • Needles: U.S. size 3 (3.25 mm) circular needles. For larger blanket sizes, a longer cable is recommended to accommodate all stitches comfortably.
  • Stitch markers: 4 / 4 / 8 / 8 / 12 / 16 markers (two per pattern square)
  • Row counter
  • Tapestry needle or crochet hook (for weaving in ends)
