Larkspur Socks are a soft and comforting knit, inspired by the gentle beauty of larkspur flowers. With a flowing, textured stitch pattern, they’re a joy to make and even more lovely to wear—perfect for slow mornings, cozy evenings, or adding a handmade touch to your everyday style.

Sizes (based on finished foot circumference)

  • S - 7” (18 cm)
  • M - 7.5” (19 cm)
  • L - 8.25” (21 cm)

Techniques used

Larkspur Socks are a cozy and rewarding knit that combines simple stitches with a few elegant details. The pattern is designed for adventurous beginners and intermediate knitters alike and uses the following techniques:

  • 1×1 Rib: A stretchy, reversible pattern created by alternating knit and purl stitches—used for the cuff
  • 1/2 LC and 1/2 RC: Left- and right-leaning cable crossings that add structure and movement to the pattern
  • Eye of the Partridge: A slip-stitch variation worked on the sole and heel, adding both durability and a soft, decorative texture
  • k3-into-3: The signature stitch of the design, forming a layered, petal-like texture inspired by larkspur flowers
  • M1L and M1R: Left- and right-slanted increases for shaping the sock precisely and invisibly
  • W&T (Wrap and Turn): A short-row technique used in the heel turn for a snug, contoured fit
  • The pattern begins with Judy’s Magic Cast-On and ends with the Italian sewn bind-off, but feel free to use your preferred cast-on and bind-off methods as long as they offer similar results.

The pattern includes both charted and written instructions so you can follow your preferred format or use them together. A schematic of the finished sock is also included for reference.

Gauge

  • 33 sts and 42 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in 3-into-3 pattern, working in the round on US 0 (2.0 mm) needles
  • 24 sts and 42 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in Eye of the Partridge pattern, working in the round on US 2.5 (3.0 mm) needles

Note: Matching the row gauge is especially important here, as it determines the length of the sole and must align with the instep section.
