This cowl is intended to be a “recipe style” pattern. Included are all the details of how the original rainbow-style Hearts of Pride Cowl was made, but it is fully intended and encouraged for customizations to be made to the maker’s specific needs and wants. This cowl is knit in the round, and uses basic stranded colorwork (based on Fair Isle) techniques. In addition to written instructions to knit the colorwork, there are two charts included: one with the original rainbow, and one in grayscale that the maker can color and follow to make their own unique pride piece. Please feel free to use this pattern as a means to show your heart and express your pride flag!

Original pattern was knit on US size 9 24” circular needles. The main color of the cowl is knit using approximately 180 yards of Worsted Weight wool, while each “row” of hearts uses about 40 yards.

Finished cowl measures 16.5” flat (33 inches around), and 10” tall. The pattern works in repeats, and the maker can choose to add or reduce repeats in their row for a looser or snugger fit.

This is intended to be a 100% free pattern, and I ask that no product of this pattern be sold for personal profit. Anyone wishing to make this pattern for charity events, please feel free to contact me and I’ll be happy to potentially approve that on a case by case basis.

At this time, I have not authorized for this pattern to be sold anywhere, even in yarn kits. LYSs selling knitting kits with this pattern have not gotten my approval, and are exploiting pride to make extra money. Please be wary.
