Heartwood Mitts
About
The Heartwood Mitts are a pair of seamless mittens worked in the round from the bottom up. Inspired by their namesake, heartwood - the older, darker wood that provides strength and stability to the cores of larger trees, these mitts feature a neat column of heart-shaped cables flowing up the centre of the back of the hand.
The pattern includes both written and charted instructions, and is suitable for intermediate knitters, or anyone prone to chilly fingers.
Construction
Stitches are cast on and worked in rib for the cuff. The cable chart is then worked across one half, while the other is worked in stockinette. Stitches are increased for the thumb gusset and set aside while the rest of the chart is completed, decreases are worked, and stitches are grafted together at the top. Thumb stitches are then returned to the needles, worked in stockinette, decreased, and bound off.
