This pattern arose after my 18 year old son saw a pattern for kids’ hedgehog mitts and asked me to make him a pair. The patterns out there are nice, but most are sized for kids, or look too much like a hand puppet for an adult to wear. These are more sophisticated and subtle. The bumpy pattern on the back combined with a nice tweedy yarn suggests hedgehog prickles nicely. I like the lifted increases because they look the neatest to me, but feel free to use your favorite increase. These knit up quick in worsted weight yarn.

Suggested yarns:
1 skein (50 grams) Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Tweed Yarn in Reindeer heather
1 skein (50 grams) Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in Oyster Heather

On pair of mittens will use up most of the main color, and somewhat less than of the other. If you need to increase the length of the mitts slightly for large hands you will have enough to do so.
