My daughter Helena loves having tea with her dolls. So far, she has been happy enough with a wooden chocolate cake her Oma gave her for Christmas, but lately, she started asking for cupcakes. She made it very clear that she wanted them to fit nicely into her silicone cupcake molds…
So here’s the recipe I came up with.

Gauge is of minor importance. Thicker yarn / bigger hooks will result in bigger cupcakes.
Mine are just over 4 cm in diameter at the base (after four rounds of single crochet), and about 7 cm in diameter at the top of the bottom part, the height of the bottom part is about 3.5 cm (which makes them an almost perfect fit for my daughter’s kitchen utensils…).

The cupcakes are worked in two parts. You’ll make the cake base and the icing and then crochet them together - no sewing involved (well, you might want to stitch on some decorative element…)!

The “recipe” is for the cupcakes only - decorating them is up to you.

Yet to come:

  • in progress images (forgot to take them…)
  • a smaller version to fit into my daughter’s smaller molds (as per her request)
