Helicowl is a fun and super-versatile tube cowl knit in the round using the helical or helix knitting technique to create perfect jogless micro stripes – at 140cm (53in) total length and 36cm (14in wide), it’s just the right length for draping around your neck a couple of times to keep you really cozy.

I used a neutral grey colour to provide a nice contrast to my rainbow graduated hand-dyed skein. Alternatively you could pick a fade set and a contrasting neutral, or simply swap colours in and out as you wish to create different effects. All your ends can be hidden inside the cowl, so go as crazy as you like!

As you’re effectively knitting a long stocking stitch tube, swapping colours each round, this is the ultimate relaxing mindless knit, but the constant shifts in colour keep it interesting.
