A V shaped wrap worked from point to wingtip, this piece was inspired by the Herring Gull, a surprisingly beautiful bird, with feathers that transition from white to dove gray to black. The stitch pattern begins with a modification of the linen stitch using double crochet stitches on every other row that creates a wonderful drape and works equally well with solid colors as with speckles or even variegated colorways. After the divide, both color and stitch texture changes with crossed double crochets for the body of the wings. Highly textured front post treble crochets finish off the wingtips in black with picots along the edge in the final row for a nice finishing touch.

Pattern features a color coded symbol chart in addition to detailed instructions for all special stitches, to include the crossed double crochet stitches, front post trebles, decreases, picots, and even my favorite standing and chainless stitch options. Oh! There’s also a schematic/coloring sheet for planning out your color selections!
