In Japanese, “HIDAMARI” means “sunny spot.” I designed this comfortable hoodie to warm you up on cold days, just like a HIDAMARI.This is a top-down-knit hoodie. It features a warm neckline, comfortable raglan sleeves, and subtle welt-stitch accents on the ribbed cuffs and hem. This hoodie is finished using the Icelandic bind-off, which many of you probably haven’t tried before. The Icelandic bind-off is very neat and beautiful, and it creates a stretchy hem. I think you’ll probably come to love this finishing technique. Since there are no seams, you’ll be able to enjoy knitting this while trying it on as you go. Have fun styling it by loosening or tightening the I-cord around the hood.

CONSTRUCTION
The “Hidamari” hoodie is knitted from the top down. First, knit the center of the hood, then pick up stitches from the sides. Use German short rows and increases to shape the curve at the top of the hood, then knit towards the neck along the sides. Once you have knitted to a length below the chin, join the two ends together and knit the neck in the round. Finally, create a welt and begin knitting the body. Use German short-row knitting combined with simultaneous increases to shape the neckline and shoulders of the body. Next, knit the raglan top-down in the round up to the underarm. Then separate the sleeves and body and continue working them in the round separately. For the cuffs and hem, work a welt stitch, then continue in 1x1 ribbing and finish with an Icelandic bind-off. This creates neat, elastic cuffs and a hem.
