Hiedra is Spanish for Ivy, which in turn was the inspiration for the colour scheme of this wrap. Isn’t October the most beautiful season in the Northern Hemisphere in terms of colours?

Skill level required for this pattern is beginner (the pattern is written in US crochet terms with a link to UK abbreviation translations).

The wrap is worked as a mesh with added surface crocheting to obtain the woven colour effects. It is a very simple technique to obtain interesting colour results and is explained in the special stitches section as well as with a photo tutorial at the end of the pattern. It measures approximately 215 cm / 84.5 inches wide and 113 cm / 44.5 inches long from the middle of the top down to the bottom corner (tassels excluded).

How long you make this wrap is up to you. I used this pattern as a stash buster of autumn colours, starting off with gradients of yellows, via beige and brown to greens, ochre, oranges and reds, ending with a deep wine red for the last row and the edge. A colour scheme is included in this pattern to see the exact colour changes used. You can make this wrap in any type of yarn you like, and just add or exclude rows to make it the right size. The yarns mentioned here are recommendations, but by no means exclusive! I used crochet hook F/4mm with DK weight yarn.

Stitches used in this pattern:

  • Ch – chain
  • Sc – single crochet
  • Sl st – slip stitch
  • Dc – double crochet
