Our Travelling East Collection is well on its way. Here is Palsan, the eighth tile in this series, this time turned into a sturdy and cool tote bag. I love this one, because of the combination of colours and size. Handy to throw over my shoulder and with enough space to take not only my belongings, but also those groceries I pick up on my way. Lining the bag is optional and gives a great finished look.

Each tile in the collection comes with an accompanying triangle (to give you the freedom to use your squares as diamonds in cushions or blankets). It also comes with an original design to showcase the many possibilities we have to turn these tiles into different types of objects. Enjoy!

Gauge:
Gauge is not crucial for this pattern, as long as your tile lies flat. However, different yarns give different gauges:
DK weight: 9sc x 9 rows = 5cm / 2”.
Aran weight: 8sc x 8 rows = 5cm / 2”.

Hooks:
√ Depending on yarn choice, 4.5mm/G-7 or 5mm/H-8 crochet hook (Adapt hook to yarn used).

Notions
√ Tapestry needle, stitch markers.
√ Optional: fabric and matching thread for lining.

Yarn:
A #3 lightweight (DK, 11wpi), or #4 medium (Aran, 8wpi) when working in 4 colours per tile:

  • approx 10m/21yd (C1).
  • approx 25m/27yd (C2).
  • approx 15m/21yd (C3).
  • approx 20m/21yd (C4).

√ The bag was worked in four colours and used DK weight yarn:

  • Fil a Tricoter Style (C1, beige, 35% wool, 40% cotton, 20% polyamide, 5% other fibers; 25g ca. 60m/66yds),
  • Fil a Tricoter Style (C2, dark blue, 35% wool, 40% cotton, 20% polyamide, 5% other fibers; 136g ca. 330m/360yds),
  • Fil a tricoter Fantasia (C3, beige/blue mixed, 100% recycled fibers, 83g ca. 200m/220yds) and
  • Bergere de France Ecoton (C4, Indigo, 48% recycled acrylic, 48% recycled cotton, 4% other recycled fibers, 70g, 182m/200yds). √ The lavender to whine red, Aran weight sample pillow (worked as individual tiles in the round, see pattern tile) used Katia Planet in colours 3960 (C1), 3972 (C2) and 3991 (C3).
