HILDUR
These patterned mittens were knitted by Gurún Bjarnadóttir from Holtastadakot (1930-2009) and were donated to the Textile Museum in 1980. Traditional pattern elements from the WestFjords are very much evident here: a pale background and a colorful patterned band at the top and bottom of the mitten.
The ribbing on the cuff is broken up with a colorful border.
Stitches for the thumb are picked up after the body of the mitten is knitted. As with all stranded knitting, the gauge is very important and these mittens are great to practice on.
