Hip to Be Square
About this Design
A floral motif nestled inside a simple, squared-off border—what’s not to love? The Hip to Be Square motif has a gentle flower-child vibe, with softly curving petals, delicate lacy spaces, and a classic granny square frame. Worked using a join-as-you-go construction method, the motifs come together seamlessly to create a beautiful, wearable scarf.
Whether you’re moving into the cooler months or welcoming the return of warmer days, the Hip to Be Square Scarf is the perfect season-transition accessory—bringing a touch of colour, warmth, and handmade charm to your wardrobe.
This design is a fabulous stash buster, allowing you to use up those small, treasured leftovers in your yarn collection. It’s also a wonderful canvas for colour play—whether you choose soft, harmonious tones (as in my sample), bold and vibrant combinations, or a more subdued palette.
The pattern uses a join-as-you-go assembly method, with diagrams included to guide you through each step of joining your motifs.
