The Holcomb Creek cowl came about after a lot of playful curiosity-- What if I combine these two unlike yarns? What if I wrap the yarn like this? The result is a cozy cowl for autumn and winter that you could create in a multitude of color combinations and would make a fantastic gift for the holidays.

The name for this cowl comes from the Holcomb Creek Train Trestle which is near my childhood home in Hillsboro, Oregon. The trestle is one of the largest wooden bridges in the U.S. still in use at 1168 feet long and 90 feet tall. I happened upon the trestle in high school after some similar curious exploring-- what if we turn this way? I frequently returned to the train trestle to take photos and try to spot a train coming by.

If you can knit and purl in the round, you can make this cowl! As the contrast color is only wrapped around slip stitches, I believe it makes a great beginner-friendly project.

MC- Malabrigo Rios shown in
“Cumparsita”
210 yards | 100 grams
2 skeins
&
WoolAddicts Air shown in “Beige”
136 yards | 50 grams
1 skein

If substituting yarns: the sample used approximately 350 yards of the worsted weight MC. If substituting yarn for the WoolAddicts Air, I recommend choosing a chunky-bulky weight single ply yarn.
