This is a hooded scarf for children, teens, and adults with a sensory disorder, but if you think they’re cute, that’s cool too.

The pattern requires stitch markers, ~500 yards of worsted weight yarn(my favorites are Caron Simply Soft, Lion Brand Heartland, and Red Heart Soft), and size 8-10 knitting needles. You will need to know how to knit, purl, k2tog (and p2tog), yo, sew (hand sew - just for the pockets), and kitchener stitch (I like knitted kitchener stitch).

Gauge isn’t super important, anywhere from 4-5 sts an inch should work just fine.

As a note, you can use the border on the hood to do cables!
(You can use more than one color if you’d like to have stripes)

--They have pockets on the ends of the scarf for stim toys or phones/ipods, or anything else.

--The hood has little button type holes to run a headphone cord through so you can listen to calming music without dangling cords getting in your way.

--There is a little ‘pocket’ in the each of the pockets. Knit squares to put inside, and they can be scented to give a calming effect. Hold the end of the scarf near your nose and you’ll be able to smell whatever scent you have. If you do not want to have the scents, just don’t make the mini pockets or the squares.
My favorite thing is to store the ‘pillows’ in a box of tea bags and take them out when I need to refresh, because they smell amazing for a while afterwards. You can also make your own sachets to put in the small pockets, if that’s what you’d prefer.
