With this design, the adult horse’s body has an internal pocket which opens to reveal the baby foal inside!

This pattern is 19 pages long and includes the instructions for both the horse and her foal with loads of photos to help you every step of the way. It is written in English, using American crochet terms.

You will need:

Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used Patons Smoothie DK Yarn (this is quite a thick DK yarn so it is equivalent to aran or light worsted weight in other brands) and my finished horse measures approx 21cm tall and 24cm long.

You will need to choose colours for the following sections:

Body Colour (approx. 178m),

Hooves, Nose, Mane & Tail (approx. 32m).

Star on the horse’s face (this is optional) - I used a small amount of white for this.

Please Note - The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide.

A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.

Toy stuffing.

Black finer yarn or embroidery thread for adding the eyes to the foal.

A pair of 9mm black eyes.

2 press studs (also called snap fasteners) for fastening the horse’s body. I used clear plastic ones.

Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and a stitch marker. You will also need a needle and thread for attaching the fasteners.
