Hortik is a playful, nature-inspired sweater that makes for an engaging project for knitters interested in stranded colourwork within a wearable, contemporary garment. Hortik means “garden”. The pattern also provides an ideal canvas for experimenting with different colours, including mini skeins and yarn leftovers.

Knit top-down in the round, this round-yoke sweater features stranded colourwork on the yoke, body, and half-sleeves. The mock neck is optional and can be worked immediately or added as an afterthought. The body is slightly cropped with a gentle A-line shape, and the hem and cuffs are finished with 2×2 ribbing.

Needles & notions

• 3.5 mm (US 4) and 4.0 mm (US 6) circular needles;
• spare cables, spare circular needles or scrap yarn to keep sts on hold;
• a few stitch markers;
• a tapestry needle to weave in the ends and add decorative stitching on the neck.

Gauge

• 20 sts & 22 rnds in 10 cm (4 in) on 4.0 mm (US 6) needles measured over colourwork worked in the round after blocking;
• 18 sts & 26 rnds in 10 cm (4 in) on 4.0 mm (US 6) needles measured over 2x2 ribbing worked in the round after blocking;
• 19 sts & 26 rnds in 10 cm (4 in) on 3.5 mm (US 4) needles measured over 2x1 ribbing worked in the round after blocking.
