My granny has knit guernsey sweaters in the traditional styles of Northumberland for everyone in the family. This sock pattern comes from a sweater she knit for her husband, which he wears almost constantly. As soon as I saw this perfectly-proportioned blend of cables and stitch patterns, I knew it would translate perfectly to a sock! The Humble sock (after my granny’s maiden name) is an absorbing knit with enough interest to keep you motivated, and a simple repeat that is quickly learned.

Pattern is charted, and has been test-knitted for accuracy. However, if you spot an issue, please do get in touch with me!

Note that gauge and needle size can vary greatly among sock knitters, and it’s recommended that you use the size of needle you usually would for sock knitting. Instructions are given according to measurements, so meeting row gauge is not crucial for this pattern.

I’m very pleased to share my first sock knitting pattern with you, and I hope you enjoy knitting it!
